Bartholomew Music Publications

Bartholomew Music aims to make good pedagogic repertoire readily available to young bass players and their teachers. It came into being in 1994 when a number of colleagues asked me to share the music I was writing and arranging for young bass players. Initially there was a book for young beginners Ready Steady Go! and a series of very easy double bass trios and quartets. Soon after I added An Introduction to Thumb Position on the Double Bass to the catalogue.

Since then, whenever I come across a piece of music that appeals to my students, I try to make it available to the wider world in the hope that others will enjoy it too. Much of the catalogue is now available as a digital download while I continue to produce high quality printed editions.

Cello Ergonomics, by Steven Doane is a bit of an outlier in the catalogue and came about when I helped him synthesise some of his teaching ideas into this book. Many of the concepts apply to the bass as well as the cello!

I hope some of the pieces appeal to you too!

Download Editions

Please be respectful of the time it takes to produce an edition of any piece of music and share a link to this website rather than share downloaded PDFs.

Piano accompaniments

All piano accompaniments are for orchestral tuning (E, A, D, G), which is what all my students use until such time as they may play a concerto with orchestra or enter a national competition. Piano parts in solo tuning are readily available elsewhere, but please do get in touch if you cannot find what you are looking for.
