Description
La Captive is a long and beautiful melody in G minor which climbs into thumb position in various places, ending with harmonics on the G string rising to the end of the fingerboard.
La Captive is the first of three pieces Amy Beach wrote for violin and piano and was published in Boston in 1893. A later manuscript of a cello part exists in the composer’s hand so hopefully Beach would have approved of this edition for double bass and piano. Here the double bass part is based on Beach’s edition for violin retaining the indication ‘sul G’ which she did not include in her arrangement for cello.
