Description
The Drunken Sailors’ Hornpipe is a medley of the traditional song ‘What shall we do with the Drunken Sailor’ and a ‘Hornpipe’ dance arranged for four double basses. It is in D minor/major and the melody moves between Basses 1, 2 and 3.
This quartet is suitable for a multi-level group of beginner and intermediate players. Basses 1 and 2 cover a wider range of notes than the other two parts, using positions up to fourth position. Bass 4 is entirely in first position.
Syncopated rhythms, harmonics, accents and tremolo all feature in The Drunken Sailors’ Hornpipe.
